In this module we will discuss the state of art in human BCIs covering topics including:

  1. Recording modalities:

    • EEG, ECoG, MEG, fMRI, and ultrasound

    • Basics of electrophysiological signals

    • Invassive vs. non-invassive (and synchronous vs. asynchronous)

  2. Preprocessing/Signal Enhancement:

    • Noise reduction and artifact processing

  3. Feature Extraction:

    • Identifying discriminative information: and dimensionality reduction

  4. Classification:

    • Pattern recognition and machine learning

  5. Control Interface:

    • Translating commands and user feedback

  6. Applications:

    • Assistive technologies and neuroprosthetics

  7. Challenges:

    • Signal quality and real-time processing
